Ultrasound Referrals

If you’ve taken a pregnancy test and the results were positive, your next step is to confirm that you have a viable pregnancy by having an ultrasound performed. At Alternatives, we offer no-cost pregnancy tests and ultrasound referrals so that you can see a medical professional who can verify that you are pregnant using ultrasound technology. We can refer you to a medical facility that will provide you with an ultrasound at no cost, and free of any obligation.

Why do I need an ultrasound?

It is advisable to have an ultrasound following a positive pregnancy test. While a positive test indicates you might be pregnant, an ultrasound confirms viability by detecting a fetal heartbeat. There are three major pieces of information an ultrasound will provide you with:

  • It will determine how far along the patient is in the pregnancy, therefore determining the gestational age of your pregnancy.
  • It will look for signs of viability by detecting a fetal heartbeat. A viable pregnancy is one that is capable of developing under normal conditions.
  • It will determine if there is a uterine pregnancy or a tubal pregnancy, which could be life-threatening if left untreated.

What is a tubal pregnancy?

A tubal pregnancy occurs when the fertilized egg does not make it to the uterus, and instead implants within a fallopian tube. This condition is also known as an ectopic pregnancy. A tubal pregnancy can be life-threatening and requires immediate medical attention.

What do I do after my pregnancy is confirmed?

After your ultrasound appointment, we recommend coming back to Alternatives for a pregnancy consultation. During this time, you will be provided with information and resources about each of your options, so you can confidently make the choice that’s right for you.
