I’ve already done a pregnancy test. Will I still receive a free test from you?

Yes, absolutely! The pregnancy tests offered by our center are lab-quality, high-sensitivity urine tests with instant results. These tests are accurate as early as 7 to 10 days after conception, usually before a missed period.

At our center, pregnancy tests are generally up to 99% accurate and:

  • are done in a private setting
  • results will be known during your appointment
  • can usually be taken before you miss your period

A positive urine pregnancy test suggests a pregnancy, but should always be confirmed by a physician or with an ultrasound.

I am under 18. Does a parent have to come with me for my appointment?

No, you may come in alone. Even though you are a minor, you have the right to confidential help, except in those cases where mandatory reporting applies, such as suicide risk. We can’t provide your records to any person without written authorization from you.

What does “post-abortion support” mean?

The process of recovering from an abortion is different for everyone. We offer support for women who have terminated one or more pregnancies, whether it was a recent abortion or many years ago. You can receive help in a group setting or one-on-one.

I had sex last night and I think the condom broke. Can I come in today for a pregnancy test?

We understand your anxiety and are here for you. Pregnancy tests are sensitive to the hormones in your body that increase during the first week of conception—generally detected after 7 days. Call today for an appointment.

Can I just come in whenever or do I need an appointment?

Please stop in between 10:30 and 2:30 Monday through Friday or call to make an appointment – whichever is more convenient for you. However, we want to make sure we have a special time set aside to talk with you, so it’s usually best to have an appointment.

Can I bring someone with me to my appointment?

Absolutely. It’s important to have the support of friends or family during an uncertain time.

Do I need to bring anything with me to my appointment?

Bring a photo ID. We will complete an intake form with you, but no insurance is required and all services are free.

Will Alternatives Pregnancy Center tell anyone that I came in for a pregnancy test?

Any and all information shared with us will be kept in the strictest confidence except as required by law or as required for the protection of yourself or others. We’ll do everything we can to protect your privacy.

I think I’m pregnant, but I’m on the pill. What should I do?

It is rare but possible to get pregnant on the pill. You will need to take a lab-quality, urine-based pregnancy test, and if it is positive, you will want to confirm pregnancy with your physician or an ultrasound.

How can I go see a doctor if I don’t have any insurance?

Alternatives Pregnancy Center will help you access the resources you need for your pregnancy including insurance through Mass Health.
