What would choosing adoption be like?

Choosing an adoption plan can be very difficult. However, it can provide your child with a full and happy life, in a family that has waited a long time for children. Adoption might be right for you if any of the following are true:

  • You are too young or emotionally unready to raise a child
  • You are still a student or are pursuing a career
  • You aren’t financially prepared to parent
  • You don’t have an emotional support system to help you
  • You are not ready to parent but do not want to have an abortion

Alternatives Pregnancy Center can talk you through what adoption would be like, and we can connect you with agencies and resources to get you started with the process.

What are the different adoption types?

Did you know that there are several different kinds of adoption? As the birth mother, you get to choose which kind of adoption is right for you: a closed, semi-open, or open adoption plan. A closed adoption indicates that you do not want contact with your child once he or she is born and adopted. Semi-open and open adoption plans both allow for different levels of contact following adoption. Most adoptions in the United States today are at least semi-open.

If I choose adoption now, can I change my mind later?

Yes, you have the ability to change your mind and keep your child anytime throughout the process.

Will my child be okay in another family?

The majority of adopted children do better than okay in their adoptive families – in fact, they thrive. Nine out of 10 couples with adopted children in the United States say the relationship they have with that child is “very close,” and the majority of children ages 5 and up have positive feelings about being adopted. Adopted children are celebrated, treasured and adored.
